Title I Science Night/Math Night- Pacific Science Center

May 13th from 5-8pm
The Pacific Science Center is bringing four exhibits to Aki:
Harvesting Science (soil and bugs!)
Mathfinder (math is everywhere!)
Super Cool Science Show (liquid nitrogen!)
Radical Reactions (foam fountain finale!)

All families and students are welcome to attend this exciting event. Students’ science fair projects will be on display (6th and 7th grade) and there will be MESA math activities for students to do as well.
FREE. Refreshments will be provided.

Aki Raises Disaster Relief Funds

The Aki Staff has collected about $1500 so far toward disaster relief. If you would like to contribute, here's how:

Samoa (tsunami)
Make checks payable to World Vision.

Philippines (flooding after typhoon)
Make checks payable to "Filipino Community Center of Seattle"

Indonesia (earthquake in Sumatra)
Make checks payable to World Vision.

Checks can be turned in at the office, or given directly to Grace Saturnino or Mike Shafer, the staff coordinators.

Literacy night

Although it was a blustery, stormy night, Aki students and parents turned out in large numbers for a pizza dinner and an introduction to the inner workings of the classroom and reading program at Aki.

The crowd was treated to a small drama performance provided by Ms. Williams and the Drama students. Classroom presentations provided tips and strategies to improve reading skills and enjoyment.

The PTSA introduced the Aki Read-A Thon, and students chose “keepers” from thousands of new books.

What is so special about the number 575?

Aki Kurose student Christa Pereyra scored a 575 on the Mathematics section of the WASL last year. A 575 is a perfect score on the 8th grade Mathematics test. Not only did Christa score a perfect test, but she scored the highest in Washington State! Congratulations Christa! Christa was involved in so many activities both during and after school. She always gives her best effort, even in the face of great adversity. We will miss you here at Aki, Christa, but you definitely left a legacy of excellence that will not soon be forgotten.

Christa is now a Freshman at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Burien, Washington.
